After graduating in 1993 from Hereford College of Art and Design, I moved back to my home town of York and set up my workshop. I have been greatly inspired by the beautiful coastline of North Yorkshire and places such as Staithes and Whitby. I love the rugged landscape, houses, birdlife and boats. Using driftwood and flotsam that I have gathered from the beaches,  I have made a variety of street scenes, 3d landscapes and hand carved and painted seabirds. I’ve sold these for many years in galleries all over the UK from Edinburgh to St Ives. I have a much adored black labrador Louis who is a constant source of joy for me and has appeared in my work. I have carved scenes recording our daily life together and his individual habits and idiosyncrasies. All my work whether birds, dogs and figures are handcarved from wood and then painted. I make a variety of 3d wall pieces as well as free standing ones. Still using my skill of hand-carving, I have  recently started making pieces inspired by the art of burlesque. I love all things vintage and the humour and cheekiness of burlesque theatre always makes me smile. I have tried to recreate the atmosphere of the burlesque and music halls, with a  variety of themed saucy ladies.  Some of them are on hand-made music boxes.
